The IL FARRO FILOSINI farm was born in the 70s from our passion for agriculture and in particular for the cultivation of spelled. This grain, considered one of the oldest cultivated by man, finds its ideal soil and climate in the central Apennine area.
Our spelled variety is for spring sowing, a characteristic that determines the high quality of the product; in fact after the harvest it is darker and more vitreous and qualitatively better. In addition, we also cultivate local historical crops, such as Solina soft wheat, Quarantino maize, Turquoise potato and “Capitignano” chickpeas.
Being autochthonous, these varieties are the ones that best lend themselves to cultivation in our area; characterized by rather stony mountain and premontane soils. The lands we cultivate are located in the area of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park at about 1000 meters above sea level.
The cultivation methods we use are completely natural and organic; in fact, we do not use the most profitable chemical fertilizing system, but the ancient system of rotation of the fields, to let the land rest (we alternate the sowing of spelled and the "rest" on the lawn every two years). Our production is mainly represented by: whole, pearl, broken, semolina, flour, spelled pasta, waffles and puffed spelled.
